After getting the newest Fony build, I can't open / import anything, even files that were created by Fony. The error I get is: Couldn't find a valid NE header.(in case it matters, I'm on Windows 7 32bit) For example none of these fonts can be imported. Anybody else having similar problems?

That's odd. I can't reproduce it on Win7 64-bit and haven't heard of anyone having a similar problem. You're using the build linked at the top of this board, right?

Yes, the "1.4.1.0b (2010-04-13)" one. I tried redownloading it, running it from different locations... no luck.
Even if I make a new font, save it and try to load it immediately afterwards it won't work.

Well I tried everything I can think of. Running as admin, uninstalling Avira (the last update started messing up with a few other programs so I thought maybe this is what's causing it), running it in compatibility mode, changing ownership... No luck.
So yes, as suggested - I guess I'll have to download the previous build and see whether it works.

Did the previous build work?

Haven't tried the old build (couldn't find it), but the new one also doesn't work. I was clicking around a bit and it crashed - the automatically generated bug report should be sent to you from a weird email address that Windows Live Mail automatically logged me in.
Anyway there are other weird bugs, for example if I draw a line it doesn't stay on screen and other glitches. Hopefully the crash report will shed some light on what's going on.

That is certainly odd behavior. I haven't had any reports of anything like it from anyone else.
Please update to version 1.4.2 (linked at the top of the forum) - it should be functionally equivalent to 1.4.1.0 but just to be sure.
Are you able to load the file 6x12F.fon from the Fony\Data directory, or does it fail too? Does "Open installed font" work? How about Import->Installed TrueType font? Can you send me a font file you've saved that can't be loaded back into Fony?

"...but the new one also doesn't work." is referring to the 1.4.2. (sorry I didn't specify it with number). Are you able to load the file 6x12F.fon from the Fony\Data directory, or does it fail too? Can't open it. Does "Open installed font" work? Can't open it, same message (NE Header). How about Import->Installed TrueType font? Works (at least I can open it, haven't tried actually working with it). Can you send me a font file you've saved that can't be loaded back into Fony? Sure, no problem.

I'll whip up a little test program for you during the weekend.

No problem, grab it here: www.nekomuragames.com/download/tests.zipI also packed in a few experiments I did by importing a True Type font (Tahoma) and saving it, as well as generating a new font (I just sprayed a few pixels around, it's empty otherwise) and trying to open them immediately after I saved them but without luck.

Tahoma.fon and test (1).fon load up fine in Fony but Tahoma.fnt seems broken. From your fontdump.txt it seems as if font data is getting loaded fine. The txt file seems mangled, though; for example, the chars ÿñ have changed to yn. (You may have to change character encoding to Western ISO-8859-1 in your browser to see the chars.) Did you edit the file or is it really the untouched original file generated by the tester program? (Or did you run the tester in compatibility mode or something?)

Nothing of the sorts, I just doubleclicked it and (after a bit of dumping of data on screen) it produced a text file. Why would I edit the file anyway, it's not like my goal is to confuse you ;) But! ...mentioning compatibility mode made me think of something else and I tested it immediately. I changed the setting for Non-Unicode software (that I usually keep on Chinese) to English and... it suddenly works! I can open all the files. The trouble is, I have to keep it on Chinese because otherwise, stupidly and absurdly for such an expensive software, my Chinese-language copy of Illustrator CS5 doesn't want to work anymore (I complained about it on Adobe's forums about it already but they couldn't care less) - my Windows and other software is also in Chinese if it matters. Also switching the language for non-Unicode programs every time I want to use a specific software requires a restart (which is sometimes impractical).

I'll try to fix this on the weekend. (The reason for this bug is me stupidly using AnsiStrings in Fony to store binary data. Now, this works fine for latin and cyrillic code pages, but fails on Chinese.)
